Zebralution Purchase Encoding Management Services, the Spotify and Apple Music Certified Services Provider

A consortium of executives from the German independent music industry, including Christof Ellinghaus, Konrad Von Loehneysen and the founders of Zebralution, Kurt Hielen and Sascha Lazimbat, agreed to buy the digital distribution company located in Berlin.

The sale was part of Warner Music's $ 200 million investment agreement, following its purchase of Parlophone Label Group in 2013.

Now, the digital distributor has confirmed a significant acquisition.

Zebralution has acquired the shares of Encoding Management Services (EMS), as reported in the Music Business Worldwide media.

The digital distributor bought the shares of the technical services provider, whose founders are Marc Radermacher and Irmin, and Levin Wiechman. The three founded EMS in 2010. The company provides solutions for the ingestion, encoding and delivery of audio, video and e-books to download stores, streaming services and digital media services.

All three will remain the same in the company. Radermacher will continue in his current role as Administrative Director. Irmin Wiechmann is going to be Chief Technology Officer of the Zebralution Group, including EMS. Levin Wiechman will work as Creative Director.

Zebralution has used EMS technology as a central part of its company since 2005.

After the acquisition, the technical services provider will continue to operate as an independent company. EMS will also have its own team and clientele. In addition to Zebralution, current customers to GoodToGo, Indigo,! K7, mbassador, TBA, Tonpool Digital and wordansound distributors.

The technical services provider is also one of the delivery platforms recommended by Spotify. In Apple Music, EMS is a certified coding house.

About the acquisition, Kurt Thielen, the head of Zebralution, mentioned:

"The technical requirements of the DPS are constantly evolving, and so are the demands of the tools we want to provide to our distribution customers."

Radermacher has added that both companies will grow together:
