Presidents of Colombia and China agree to strengthen bilateral relations in economy, investment, commerce, tourism, culture and technologies

During the meeting held on Wednesday, in Beijing, the Presidents of Colombia and China, Iván Duque and Xi Jinping, agreed to strengthen the bilateral relationship on issues related to economy, investment, trade, tourism, culture and new technologies.

At the meeting, which was held at the Great People's Palace in Beijing, President Duque highlighted the commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, and highlighted the way in which Chinese businessmen view Colombia as a attractive country for investment.

“I want to tell you, President Xi, that our visit is to relate more and more to each other. I have been able to talk with many businessmen from this country, who see in Colombia a place destined for investment in infrastructure projects, in the areas of interconnection, renewable energy; the enormous possibility that exists in Colombia for logistics in Latin America and, of course, in the development of the technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, such as artificial intelligence, the internet of things and, of course, in technologies related to encryption of information, ”the Colombian Head of State told the President of the People's Republic of China.

In his words, at the beginning of the meeting, President Duque stressed that his state visit seeks to "deepen trade and investment, but also cultural relations and cooperative relations."

Likewise, the Head of State highlighted the closing of the agreement that allows the export of 40 million dollars annually in Colombian banana to the Asian country, as well as the signing of the protocol that enables the entry of fresh Colombian avocado, of the Hass variety, to Chinese market

For his part, President Xi Jinping highlighted the leadership of the Colombian President and the commemoration of the 40 years of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, while reiterating his Government's willingness to deepen the ties of the two countries In all areas.

“On my behalf and on behalf of the Government of China, I warmly welcome your excellence for making this visit to China. I am convinced that, under the leadership of its excellence, Colombia will have a very good development in the future, ”he said.

“Next year we will commemorate the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Colombia. We are willing to deepen our ties in all areas. I formulate the votes for the full success of his state view, ”said President Xi Jinping.

Meeting with the President of the Popular Assembly

It should be noted that, previously, President Duque had met with the President of the People's Assembly of China, Li Zhanshu, also in Beijing, an event during which the Colombian Head of State said that one of the objectives of his visit is to give a "Leap into the future" in the 40-year relationship of the two countries.

“It is an honor for me to be here with you, with your team. My respects to the Assembly. I believe that this Assembly has historically participated, definitively, in bilateral relations, ”said the Colombian president.

“I want to tell you that my presence in the People's Republic of China, in Shanghai and now in Beijing, is also due to the celebrations of 40 years of diplomatic relationship between the Republic of Colombia and the People's Republic of China. We celebrate 40 years, but we want to make a very important leap into the future, in the face of the next 40 years of this bilateral relationship, ”he said.

The Colombian Head of State reiterated the importance of the bilateral relationship, in economic and commercial terms, and explained the sectors where the ties between the two countries can be further strengthened.

Meeting with the Prime Minister

After this event, President Duque also met with the Chinese Prime Minister, Li Keqiang, who told the Colombian Head of State that his country is willing to strengthen the binational cooperation ties.

"I know that Colombia has many high quality products, especially agricultural products, which are very well received by the Chinese people and are very popular around here," like coffee, said the Prime Minister.

"We are willing to have greater cooperation with Colombia under market principles and under commercial rules, so that we have more fair trade and a transparent environment and strengthen cooperation in trade and investment," he added.

This Wednesday in Beijing, President Duke also deposited a floral offering at the Monument of the Heroes of Tiananmen Square.
